SRH v CSK – Just Cricket’s Commentary

Match Recap

David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first.

Deepak Chahar started off brilliantly with the ball to dismiss Bairstow not no score. Manish Pandey got a few boundaries away as Warner was batting conservatively. CSK were on top as they dismissed the SRH top order which is their strength early on. SRH were struggling at 69/4 in 11 overs. As CSK was expected to wrap up things quickly, Young Garg came out with a brilliant innings along with Abhishek Sharma. Garg scored an unbeaten 51 off just 26 balls and Abhishek Sharma got 31 which took SRH to a par score of 164.

CSK came out with Fat Du Plessis and Watson but Bhuvneshwar Kumar was very good with the new ball swinging it both ways. The batsman struggled to get going and Watson fell early on. CSK were not able to get a partnership going as they were struggling at 42/4 in 8.2 overs. MS Dhoni who came in at 5 along with Jadeja strung a partnership 72 runs partnership together but this came from 56 balls which was slow considering the required rate. As it got to a stage where 63 was required off the last 3 overs, CSK got a 19 and 16 runs over in which got it down to 28 off the last over with Dhoni on strike. Bhuvneshwar Kumar got injured in the 19th over which meant that young Samad had to bowl the last over. He didn’t start well as first ball went for 4 wides. With 23 needed from 6 balls and Dhoni at the crease against a part time bowler, it did look possible, but Dhoni by this time was completely exhausted and didn’t get the power to clear the boundaries. SRH ended up winning by 7 runs.

Game Changing Moments

CSK had the game in control as SRH were going at less than run a ball at the end of the 13th over as they were at 77/4. But CSK let SRH off the hook with some poor bowling and bad fielding as they conceded 87 in the last 7 overs against the young and inexperienced batsman.

CSK needed to get off to a good start to stay in the match but they lost the top 3 batman for just 36 runs in the first 6 overs after which they did not really recover.

Areas to Focus

CSK have a number of areas to focus on. This game they played a good combination but still were not able to perform well.

Shane Watson at the top of the order is a very important player for CSK and he needs to find form soon. At the moment they are not able to get off to good starts which is key to chasing totals.

CSK’s death bowling has been expensive which is something they need to address. For this the bowlers need to follow their plans and the fielders have to be sharp as well. In this match, the CSK bowlers were not able to bowl to their fields and hence leaked runs.

Underrated Performer of the Day

Abhishek Sharma’s innings of 31 from 24 balls was very crucial in the context. He came in when Williamson was dismissed. From there he had to stay and build a partnership with Garg to post a good total.

With SRH lacking a genuine 5th bowler, his one over giving just 4 runs was also important.
