The Royal Challengers Bangalore has been the team that has always come into seasons with high expectations but have failed to deliver. They have always had abundance of talent but have somehow not been able to gel together as a team. Virat Kohli and AB Devilliers have been pillars of this team over the years but have struggled to find a combination to support them.
This year however, they have restructured their setup, getting Mike Hesson as the Director of Cricket operations and Simon Katich as Head coach and this should simplify the responsibilities for Kohli and his team which will help them perform better. RCB have bought well at this years auction, addressing some of the gaps in the team and will be hoping that this year will fetch them the results they want.
Virat Kohli and AB Devilliers are one of the best partnerships for IPL who RCB can depend to get runs consistently.
This year, apart from Kohli, they have Aaron Finch and some more promising talent in the line up to share the work load.
They have got some young talent who have done very well in the domestic season like Devdutt Padikkal, Shahbaz Ahmed and Josh Philippe.
In the past, the main issue with RCB has been the constant chopping and changing they do and not giving players an extended run. This way, the players are not allowed to settle and play at their best.
They should find a way to trust the players they pick and persist with them.
RCB probably have their most balanced team this year. AB Devilliers has kept wickets in Big Bash League earlier this year and should do it for RCB as well which will give them more options. Chris Morris is a good addition to the team with the ball and bat, but if the wickets are slow, they could also look at Iruru Udana who can excel in such conditions. Aaron Finch should open the innings to start with, but if he doesn’t go well, they could also try out Josh Philippe who can keep as well. At number 7, they could go for Washington Sundar who is more established, but could also go for Shahbaz Ahmed or Pawan Negi for left arm option since Moeen Ali can provide the right arm spin.
RCB Probable XI to start the tournament : 1) Aaron Finch, 2) Devdutt Padikkal, 3) Virat Kohli (c), 4) AB Devilliers (wk), 5) Moeen Ali, 6) Shivam Dube, 7) Washington Sundar, 8) Chris Morris, 9) Umesh Yadav, 10) Navdeep Saini, 11) Yuzvendra Chahal
RCB look like they have a very balanced side this year and if they are able to persist with players and back them, this year can fetch them very good results.
